Movement, Wellbeing & Creative Expression Through Dance

Soul Collective CIC delivers Creative Health Workshops in Kent, Medway and London, using dance and movement as tools to improve mental wellbeing, confidence and social connection.

Our workshops are designed to support young people and communities who may face barriers to engagement, low confidence or limited access to arts provision.

We believe movement is medicine — and creativity builds resilience.

What Is Creative Health?

Creative health is the use of arts and culture to improve physical, mental and emotional well-being.

Our dance-based creative health workshops support:

  • Emotional regulation

  • Confidence building

  • Stress reduction

  • Positive self-expression

  • Social connection

  • Physical fitness

Through structured movement sessions, participants develop both technical skills and emotional resilience.

Who Our Creative Health Workshops Support

We work with:

  • Young people experiencing low confidence

  • Pupils in high-FSM schools

  • Youth at risk of disengagement

  • Community groups

  • Alternative provision settings

  • Holiday activity programmes

Our sessions are inclusive, non-judgemental and accessible to all abilities.

Our Workshop Approach

Each Creative Health Workshop includes:

Warm-Up & Emotional Check-In

Gentle movement exercises designed to ground participants and build focus.

Skill-Based Movement

Introduction to street dance styles such as hip hop, house and Afro-dances, adapted for different confidence and ability levels.

Creative Expression

Freestyle and choreography tasks that allow young people to explore identity, storytelling and emotion through movement.

Reflection & Group Dialogue

Safe space discussions that build communication skills and peer support.

Outcomes We Aim to Achieve

Our Creative Health Workshops aim to:

  • Improve self-esteem

  • Increase participation in physical activity

  • Strengthen teamwork and peer relationships

  • Reduce behavioural incidents

  • Increase engagement in education

  • Provide positive role models

We measure impact through participant feedback, school evaluations and progression tracking.

Why Dance for Wellbeing?

Street dance and hip hop culture provide:

  • Structured discipline

  • Creative freedom

  • Cultural identity

  • Positive mentorship

  • Physical release

For many young people, traditional sports or classroom environments may not feel accessible. Dance offers an alternative route to engagement.
